How to Clean a Nylon WHOOP Band Without Ruining the Fit

Printed nylon replacement band compatible with WHOOP 5.0

A nylon WHOOP band lives through sweat, sleep, sunscreen and daily wear. Regular cleaning keeps the fabric comfortable and helps prevent odor, but harsh products and high heat can damage the fibers or change the fit.

What you need

  • Cool or lukewarm water.
  • A small amount of mild soap.
  • A clean towel.
  • A flat, ventilated place for air drying.

Avoid bleach, fabric dye, aggressive stain removers and direct high heat.

Step-by-step cleaning method

  1. Remove the band from the sensor. This lets you clean the fabric thoroughly and protects the connector hardware. Follow our band-changing guide if needed.
  2. Rinse with cool or lukewarm water. This loosens salt, sweat and surface dirt.
  3. Add mild soap. Work a small amount through the fabric with your fingers. Do not scrub printed areas with a stiff brush.
  4. Rinse completely. Leftover soap can irritate skin and make the material feel stiff.
  5. Press out excess water. Use a towel and gentle pressure. Do not twist or wring the band.
  6. Air dry fully. Lay the band flat away from radiators, hair dryers and direct high heat. Reattach it only when the fabric and hardware are completely dry.

How often should you wash it?

A useful baseline is every three to four wears, then more often during hot weather or heavy training. WHOOP’s official care guidance recommends regular soap-and-water cleaning for knit bands and complete air drying before reuse.

Do not wait for a strong odor. A quick regular wash is gentler than an aggressive deep clean after weeks of buildup.

Clean the sensor and hardware separately

Wipe the Fast Link channel and clasp with a soft, dry cloth to remove lint or grit. The sensor underside can be cleaned according to the device manufacturer’s instructions. If you own WHOOP MG, avoid alcohol-based wipes on ECG contact areas and make sure the contacts are clean and dry before taking a reading.

Five mistakes to avoid

  • Wearing the band while it is still damp.
  • Drying it in a machine or with a hair dryer.
  • Using bleach or strong household cleaners.
  • Twisting the fabric to remove water.
  • Forcing a dirty or obstructed slider onto the sensor.

The two-band rotation

If you train most days, keep two bands in rotation. Wear one while the other is being washed and air dried. It is the simplest way to keep the sensor on your wrist without putting a damp band back against your skin.
