Changing a WHOOP 5.0 band is a tool-free job once you understand the two connection points. Go slowly the first time, work over a table, and never force the slider.
Before you start
- Confirm the replacement band matches your device generation.
- If you own WHOOP MG, use an MG-specific band when you need Heart Screener or ECG functionality.
- Wash and dry your hands so the sensor and clasp are easy to grip.
- Place a soft cloth on the table to protect the sensor.
Remove the current band
- Open the clasp. Lift from underneath the part marked with the WHOOP logo or “W.” It should open with a click.
- Take the device off your wrist. Handling the mechanism is easier when the band is loose.
- Locate the Fast Link slider. It sits at one end of the sensor and has a visible line across the sliding piece.
- Slide it away from the sensor. Hold the top and bottom of the slider, apply even pressure, and move it to either side.
- Release the hook. Gently lift the two small prongs out of the pinholes on the opposite side of the sensor.
Install the new WHOOP 5.0 band
- Check orientation. The Fast Link piece should line up with the sensor like matching puzzle pieces. If it resists, stop and make sure the band is not upside down.
- Seat the Fast Link connection. Slide it into place until it is flush with both edges of the sensor.
- Attach the hook. Press the two prongs into the pinholes on the opposite side. Make sure the fabric is not twisted.
- Wrap and close. Bring the clasp over the sensor and press the logo area until it clicks into place.
- Adjust the fit. The band should sit snugly about one inch above the wrist bone without restricting circulation.
These steps follow the official Fast Link slider guidance.
If the slider feels stuck
Do not use pliers or excessive force. Check for dust around the channel and wipe the hardware with a dry microfiber cloth. Hold both the top and bottom of the slider and apply gentle, even pressure. If the parts still do not move normally, stop before damaging the sensor or clasp.
Final fit check
Move your wrist through a full range of motion. The sensor should remain flat against the skin, the clasp should stay closed, and the band should not slide freely. A band that is too loose can reduce consistent sensor contact; a band that is too tight can become uncomfortable during sleep or training.
