WHOOP 5.0 vs WHOOP MG Bands: What Actually Fits?

Green camo replacement band compatible with WHOOP 5.0

If you are shopping for a replacement WHOOP band, the model name matters more than the color. WHOOP 4.0, WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG use different accessory requirements—and choosing the wrong hardware can mean a poor fit or lost functionality.

The short answer

  • WHOOP 4.0 bands do not fit WHOOP 5.0 or WHOOP MG. The slider and clasp systems are different.
  • WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG are physically close, but MG has an extra requirement. Heart Screener and ECG readings require an MG-compatible band with conductive hardware.
  • Choose the exact device option shown on the product page. Do not buy a standard 5.0 band for an MG device just because the slider appears to connect.

WHOOP’s own band compatibility guidance says MG-specific bands use a scalloped clasp and conductive coating. A regular WHOOP 5.0 band may physically attach to an MG device, but it is not designed to support ECG functionality.

Why WHOOP MG bands are different

WHOOP MG adds Heart Screener features that depend on electrical contact through the clasp. That means compatibility is not only about whether the band stays attached. The hardware must also support the conductive path used during an ECG reading.

If you use WHOOP MG, look for an explicit WHOOP MG option. If a seller only says “fits 5.0,” that is not enough evidence that the band supports MG features.

How to check which WHOOP you own

  1. Open the WHOOP app.
  2. Go to the device section and read the registered model.
  3. If your membership and device include Heart Screener or ECG features, you have WHOOP MG.
  4. If you still use a 4.0 sensor, shop only for 4.0 accessories.

How Strapion labels compatibility

Each compatible Strapion product uses a device selector. Pick WHOOP 5.0 for the standard sensor and WHOOP MG only when that exact MG-specific option is available. The device itself is never included.

We do not treat “5.0/MG” as a single universal piece of hardware. This is deliberate: clear model labeling reduces returns and helps protect the features you bought the device for.

Compatibility checklist

  • Confirm the model inside your WHOOP app.
  • Ignore 4.0 listings if you own 5.0 or MG.
  • For MG, verify that the product option is specifically labeled WHOOP MG.
  • Never force a slider or clasp that resists normal installation.
  • After installation, check that the sensor sits snug and flat against your skin.
